When our babies were still in our womb, we used to let them listen to the soothing sounds of classical music of famous musicians such as Mozart. They say, this helps the baby develop their mental skills as early as pregnancy stage. And when they are born, we let them listen to the different nursery rhymes and musicals that they usually enjoy listening and dancing to. As they grow up to be active toddlers and later preschoolers, most mom and dads would want to have their little children develop their musical faculties. And so, time comes when parents would bring their young boys and girls to the musical shop to choose their very first musical instrument. However, parents should bear in mind that there is more to choosing a musical instrument than picking one that looks good and enjoyable. The following factors should be given consideration. * Pick an instrument that matches your child's interest. These two aspects should be given due notice. For one, if a child is interested in the musical instrument, he would have enough self motivation and eagerness to learn how to play it. Studying and training on how to play and handle a musical instrument is not an easy feat. It takes much time and much practice for your kids to be able to carry a tune. If the musical instrument has no appeal to them, then most probably such would be left in the backs of their closet accumulating dust. And it would be equally tasking on his musical instructor to teach him the lessons there are to playing the instrument. * Pick an instrument that matches your child's abilities. You should not only consider his interest but also think about his abilities. More often than not, a young child will choose an instrument that he finds fascinating now, particularly the ones that is the latest trend. This interest may pass away after a few weeks. What will remain will be your child's abilities. If you base your choice of musical instrument on your child's talent, he will have more aptitude to learn his musical lessons more easily and more rapidly. The achievement of passing musical lessons, increasing his skills and of course, the admiration of the people close to him, will be enough motivation for your little one to continue harnessing his skill in playing such musical instrument. * Match the weight and height of the instrument with your child's physique. Although you have seen much potential in your youngster in playing the drums, do not let your excitement push you in going all out and purchasing the most expensive and most sizeable complete drum set there is. Remember to always start small. You may give him a small drum first. One that he can easily carry and bring along with him to places where he may want to practice. Then as he grows a little bit older, you may give him bigger drums until it comes to a point where he will be able to handle a complete set including those banging cymbals. |
